Jumps Racing Debate

The last week has triggered a heated debate in terms of jumps racing and, based primarily on the Grand National Hurdle at Flemington last Saturday, in which two horses had to be euthanized, and only four of the thirteen starters completed the race. These jumps season has seen a series of falls, leading to a wave of support for banning the sport in Australia. And 'knee jerk reaction only by animal rights activists and lobbyists, or cry to ban jumps racing-areMerit?

In assessing the jumps races we look at history and what it means for the industry. Jumps-racing has a rich history and culture in Australia, as in many countries around the world. We only saw the Oakbank and Warrnambool carnivals look at the popularity of the sport. Oakbank is a carnival like no other in the world. And 'rivals the Melbourne Cup in size and Holy Saturday sees a lot of about 45,000 and is paving the way for a fantasticCarnival ends with the participation of about 70,000 customers on Easter Monday, which is the largest gathering Oakbank picnic race on earth. Warrnambool has a rich history. And 'the home of the Grand Annual Steeplechase, jumping more (33) than any other breed, and is one of the longest of the race barriers in the world. And 'on Thursday May 1 of each year as part of a three-day racing festival, and attracts many people from all over Australia. The first annual GreatSteeplechase was held in Warrnambool in 1872, and its popularity continues to grow each year. So, with the popularity of this sport, because they are minorities, so intent on call with it? Now, simply said, say it is cruel to horses and their mortality is in danger. One statistic that was not affected by these animal rights activists said that last season there were 22 deaths on the track in Australia. Of these 22, only four of the deaths occurred in jumps, races, while the restoccurred in flat races.

So why are not jumping up and down trying to stop a flat-screen racing to compete in this country? The answer is simply that the level of governments, state and federal authorities, only laugh at such a proposal. Turnover racing is of fundamental importance for the economy as never clear during the equine influenza crisis is never more in danger of being abolished, no matter how many horses are euthanized each year due to racing incidents. We justLook at the horror of the recent incident in Ipswich, to see how it can be devastating flat racing. Incidentally, there are more deaths jump jockeys in flat racing than their counterparts. Again, we never see up into the arms of lobbyists on this.

After considering the above statistics, which leads me to believe that running jump attracts all the attention, because it is an easy target and gives them something to do. I want to emphasize, however, that I too am a fan of horses andLove the sport of racing, and recognize a number of concerns must be addressed and a solution must be found attractive. Everyone is involved with the breed jumps, the fact that horses enjoy jumping and has a huge following and certify that makes a great show. It has many horses legendary status, a first example, a horse called Crisp. Crisp was an Australian champion horse fences. In his homeland, has won many important races, including the jump HiskeSteeple Chase in 1969 and 1970. As you jump, was nicknamed "The Black Kangaroo". In England, he finished second to Red Rum in 1973 the Grand National in Aintree, when the champion of the future, giving considerable weight advantage. Crisp carried top weight of 10st Red Rum 12ST than 5 pounds. He has conducted over the fence before the last resistance. Despite Red Rum won three citizens and ensure its place in British sporting history, the 1973 race is a good reminderCrisp has worked for courageous in defeat than in victory in the Red Rum. Crisp other hunts in England, including the Champion Chase (now Queen Mother Champion Chase) in 1971. More recently, his legend has Karas wining three consecutive jumps Japanese Grande and built over three million dollars in the process.

This week, the Australian Jumps Racing Association has a nine-point plan in the hope of placating the hostile climate that has thrown the season to jump, whilecontribute to a safer sport for everyone to jump, could achieve what they have in the past four years. Race falls in jumps races is 34% and with further work we will try to make it even safer. As I said, the first show, static jumps racing, has had far fewer deaths from horse racing, but racing is to jump the police mistakenly the entire game. The next thing you know, riding and jumping at risk. We try to convince the real people, there are much more important thingsin society that need to be adjusted, but year after year, we made a clamor same old chestnuts.
